"I could never do this myself," she said as she showed me her new quilt. "No one should claim complete credit for any quilt." She was not just being modest about her long hard work on the quilt. When she says that it takes a village to make a quilt, especially this quilt, she is giving thanks to everyone ever involved, those directly and those indirectly--and to her "significant other" who helped, too.

Our thanks to Maureen Groeneveld, a quilter who lives in South Africa, a gracious women who sent Joan some African fabric and led her into a new direction. Just as she was getting a little frustrated about finding a new project, Joan just knew she had to create a quilt with an African theme. After all, what is fabric for anyway?
